Lisa King, in partnership with the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, positions batik as an evolving practice shaped by exchange, material knowledge and contemporary application. At Gallery 8, the textile artist presents batik through a personal and cross-cultural lens, drawing on her mother’s archive and Indonesian heritage. Working with artisan communities in Indonesia and collaborators in the UK, she reconsiders the process-led technique through a contemporary language of colour, pattern and form. The exhibition brings batik into dialogue with art, fashion and interiors, foregrounding its material intelligence and ongoing evolution.
