A natural dye painting made in Lisa's East London studio. The title refers to a photograph of the flower market in Yogyakarta where Lisa spends her mornings before heading to the batik studio. Made on silk linen using natural dye pastes and hand-drawn batik wax, the palette draws on plant sources native to the UK — bark, root, leaf, seed — set in dialogue with Indonesia's own deep tradition of botanical dyeing.
Unique work, Edition of 1.

British plant dyes on silk and linen
60 x 71 cm
Batik: Recolouring Tradition is an exhibition that retraces the steps of batik through a deeply personal and cross-cultural lens. Inspired by her late mother Farida King’s rich textile archive and Indonesian heritage, British textile artist and designer Lisa King embarks on a journey to deconstruct and re-examine this ancient technique for a contemporary world.
